In early October, HBO will be releasing a documentary called “Student Athlete,” a film that follows five individuals impacted by the exploitation of college sports. The goal of the documentary is to highlight the issues facing those involved with college athletics and to show that real people are being impacted by the culture created by the NCAA’s short-sided policies.
The film follows former Rutgers wide receiver Shamar Graves, former NFL and NCAA assistant coach John Shoop, Silas Nacita, who was a walk-on deemed ineligible to play at Baylor, Mike Shaw, who played basketball at both Illinois and Bradley before being injured, and University of Kentucky center Nick Richards as an upcoming recruit.
