Greenup County High School suspends school after coach dies from COVID-19

Jamie Kennedy, a teacher and assistant football coach at Greenup County High School, died Wednesday from COVID-19 complications. He was 49.

Greenup County Public Schools are closed for the rest of the week as COVID-19 cases soar. Instruction will not be moved online for NTI. Although classes will not be in session, superintendent Traysea Moresea said counselors and mental health providers will be available at Greenup County High School to assist students and staff.

Kennedy, who previously worked in a similar capacity at Johnson Central, taught health at Greenup County. COVID-19 forced the Musketeers’ football team to cancel the opening game of the 2021 season last Friday.
