The new mayor of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, is a 6-month old French bulldog named Wilbur.
Rabbit Hash has a tradition of electing animals to “server” as mayor.
Wilbur beat out 12 other dogs, a donkey and a dead cat for the honors this year.
“Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, has never had an actual person or human as a mayor,” Amy Noland, Wilbur’s human, told NBC News.
Noland said the tradition emerged in the late 1990s.
“There was a man named Don Claire who thought it would be a great idea to elect some type of animal — not necessarily a canine — as mayor of town, as a fundraising event for the historical society,” she explained
