In 1978 Kyle Macy helped Joe B. Hall win his first National Championship as a head coach. Thirty-nine years later at 60, Macy played professional tennis.
In a qualifying match of the Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships, the former UK All-American and first round draft pick faced-off against a current Wildcat tennis player, sophomore Trey Yates. Even though Macy has extensive experience on a tennis court — he had scholarship offers to play basketball and tennis — he stood no chance against the 21-year old. Yates swept Macy 6-0, 6-0.
“I didn’t have any illusions of grandeur that I was going to come out here and win a match,” Macy told WKYT’s Steve Moss.
