LEXINGTON — Former DeSales High School and University of Kentucky football player Jerry Bell died Monday.
The news of Bell's death was shared to social media by his former UK roommate Freddie Maggard. Bell suffered a traumatic brain injury in 1997 as the result of a gunshot wound to the head. He was a frequent visitor to UK practices in recent years, especially when Maggard worked on Mark Stoops' UK staff.
According to a report from Kentucky Sports Radio, Bell died after suffering a heart attack.
"I’m devastated to learn the news of Jerry Bell’s passing," Stoops tweeted Tuesday.
