With the NCAA making the difficult decision to cancel March Madness due to the coronavirus outbreak, a Florida state senator has taken it upon himself to declare a national champion for the 2020 season.
Joe Gruters, a member of the Florida Senate representing the 23rd District, has introduced a resolution declaring the Florida State Seminoles champions.
“A resolution declaring the Florida State University Seminoles basketball team, by virtue of tremendous skill on the court and the heart and spirit shown by the players and coaches this season, the 2020 National College Athletic Association basketball champions by default upon cancellation of the NCAA tournament due to concerns raised by the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19,” the resolution states.
