LEXINGTON, Ky. – New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is likely to become the NFL’s all-time leading passer Monday night.
If things had played out slightly differently, Brees might have been breaking the record as a University of Kentucky alumnus.
After suffering an ACL injury earlier in his high school career, Brees was one of the few quarterbacks available late in the 1997 recruiting cycle. Purdue and Kentucky became the first Power 5 conference programs to show interest after hiring coaches to run spread offenses in Joe Tiller and Hal Mumme respectively.
