Details of NCAA’s proposal to give players name, image, and likeness rights

Last week, news broke that the NCAA was moving towards giving players name, image, and likeness rights, with a proposal going in front of the Board of Governors as soon as this afternoon. ESPN’s Dan Murphy just posted some details from that plan, which NCAA members will have time to review and tweak before voting on in January — or possibly sooner.

Here are the changes that are being proposed:

  • Allow student-athletes to make money by modeling apparel as long as that apparel doesn’t include school logos or other “school marks.”
  • Allow athletes to make money from advertisements.
