Derrick Ramsey named Secretary of Labor

this afternoon by Governor Matt Bevin.

Ramsey, of course, was part of the vaunted 1976 Kentucky team that won the SEC Championship and Peach Bowl. In 1977, he was named first team All-SEC and third team All-American after leading the Cats to a 10-1 record and a #4 ranking in the AP poll. If that wasn’t enough athletics, he also played a few basketball games as a walk-on. Ramsey went on to play in the NFL for nine years as a tight end for the New England Patriots and the Oakland Raiders.

Since his playing days, Ramsey has held positions as athletic director for Kentucky State, Director of Development and Community Relations at UK, and most recently, athletics director at Coppin State.
