After a back-and-forth recruitment that spanned nearly four weeks, Evansville transfer DeAndre Williams announced his commitment to Memphis on Friday afternoon, choosing the Tigers over finalists Arkansas, Baylor, and Kentucky.
In the day leading up to Williams’ announcement, it was well-known within recruiting circles that Memphis was the likely choice, as Kentucky – the previous favorite – had backed away in the recruitment coming out of the weekend. Arkansas and Baylor were seen as early contenders, but they both maintained limited communication and ultimately fell out of contention the week prior.
Had a commitment come late last week and into the weekend, Kentucky was widely expected to be the choice.
