Daniel Orton just finished up a stint with the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA Summer League, and unfortunately, probably didn’t do enough to make a roster. Orton averaged 5.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 29.8 minutes per game, but seemed to suffer from the same problems that plagued him overseas.
Tim Cone coached Orton during his stint with the Philippine Basketball Association — which ended when Orton insulted national hero Manny Pacquiao’s basketball skills — and tried to explain Orton’s problems in a recent interview with Grantland’s Jason Concepcion:
“I never cut imports,” Cone told me in Las Vegas.
