Courier Journal's Tim Sullivan has placed second in his category for column writing in the Associated Press Sports Editors' annual contest and was among five USA TODAY Network writers to place in the top 10.
Sullivan's collection of submitted columns included work on former Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino, Louisville-area native and PGA Tour star Justin Thomas, the case of NCAA referee John Higgins and Kentucky basketball fans, the legacy of former pro baseball player and Kentucky Congressman Jim Bunning and the loss of a major athletic donation over the firing of Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich.
