Counting Coaches’ Cliches at SEC Media Days

Related Topics: Cliché, Gus Malzahn

The Count: 34

The Quotes:

“You got to earn it. And we’re going to take the one-game-at-a-time approach.”

“You got to bring your lunch every week.”

“He’s operating with a chip on his shoulder.”

The Skinny: Malzahn is a nerd that doesn’t know how to be exciting. Even though he’s not a necessarily a walking cliche, he doesn’t know how to creatively express himself. When you say “exciting” and “important” all of the time, it takes away their excitement and importance. It was difficult to decipher between the cliche and coach-speak, but if you were predicting how he would answer each question, you’d get 9/10 correct.
