LEXINGTON, Ky. — You could forgive Kentucky football assistant Lamar Thomas for his presumption.
After all, Thomas knows something about recruiting – he was the coach that lured eventual Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson to Louisville – but when he approached Kentucky basketball assistant John Robic with a tip shortly after leaving U of L for a spot on Mark Stoops’ staff at UK, Thomas was met with a quick response.
“Whoa, hold on, hold on,” Robic told him. “We only recruit pros.”
Undaunted, Thomas put in one last pitch for the son of friend and former rival from his own football playing career.
