Talent is great and mandatory at the highest level. But, it develops at different stages for each individual prospect. Talent can also be evaluated in differing manners. Some analysts lean heavily on the camp and combine circuit. Others reference actual game tape. I’ve changed my tone and utilize both, but tend to adhere more to game film and high school coach’s recommendations. Recruiting services assign stars and are more accurate than not. Actually, highly accurate in most cases. However, there are intangibles that separate underrated prospects that are more evident on game film than noticeable at a combine. On-field play must be taken in consideration when ranking prospects.
