A big sixth inning helped keep Kentucky’s season alive Sunday night, and now the Wildcats are just one victory away from a berth in the NCAA Tournament super regional.
UK defeated North Carolina State 8-6 to set up a Monday night date with the Wolfpack at Cliff Hagan Stadium with the regional title on the line.
With the Cats leading 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth, UK right fielder Tristan Pompey doubled with two outs to become the first of six consecutive Wildcats to reach base. Evan White and Zach Reks followed with singles — Reks’ hit scored Pompey — and Kole Cottam and Riley Mahan both drew walks before Luke Becker’s RBI single finished the damage.
