LEXINGTON — John Calipari likes to tell reporters he can read the tea leaves to predict the next big change in college basketball, but even he would likely admit he did not realize how prophetic his words after a 2018 NCAA Tournament game would end up being.
Kentucky had just dispatched Davidson 78-73 in a first-round game in Boise, Idaho. A reporter asked Calipari for his impressions of two Davidson stars.
“How would (Peyton) Aldridge or (Kellan) Grady fair in the SEC?” the reporter asked.
“They’d do fine,” Calipari said. “… I had friends of mine from within the league (who) told me, ‘You know, they have guys that could play for you guys.
