After a long journey back from injury, along with the typical wait-your-turn approach you see with end-of-rotation players on the Kentucky bench to open the 2020-21 season, redshirt freshman guard Dontaie Allen finally earned his shot.
And goodness did he capitalize, finishing with a team-high 23 points on 8-13 shooting overall and 7-11 from three in a career-high 23 minutes to lead Kentucky to a 78-73 victory in double overtime.
As expected, UK head coach John Calipari – who repeatedly claimed other players ahead of Allen in the rotation needed more shots and deserved the bulk of minutes – was ready to eat crow after the breakout performance.
