John Calipari needs the Southeastern Conference to waive its current rule that forces players to sit out one season following a transfer inside the conference, a move that would allow Kentucky guard signee Sahvir Wheeler to suit up for the Wildcats immediately in 2021-22.
Though the NCAA has passed its one-time immediate transfer rule that allows players to freely move from one school to another without penalty, the SEC’s long-standing intraconference transfer rule still stands in the way of players like Wheeler – a former Georgia standout – from receiving immediate eligibility at their new schools. As of today, players moving from one SEC school to another must request a waiver to play right away.
