Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis was scheduled to appear at the U.S District Court in Ashland, KY., 11 a.m. on Thursday to be tried for contempt of court over denying marriage licenses in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.
The Supreme Court ruled it was unconstitutional to deny same-sex couples the right to marry in a 5-to-4 decision on June 26 — Davis, a Christian who has three times refused to issue any marriage licenses in the aftermath of the ruling because of her religious beliefs, has been urged by Kentucky Gov.
