In Billy Gillispie’s second and final season as the head coach at the University of Kentucky, he had the honor of witnessing the second-best scoring season in the history of Kentucky basketball (854 points, trailing only Dan Issel). Even though Gillispie once said, “This isn’t the University of Jodie Meeks,” the Cats remained competitive thanks to Patterson’s prowess in the post and Meeks’ ability to get buckets.
The shooting guard’s 54-point performance at Tennessee was the highlight of a season that ended with Billy G’s termination following a third round NIT exit.
