Alex Poythress tore his ACL one year ago today

It was on this day one year ago when Alex Poythress tore his ACL, thus ending his 2014-15 season with Kentucky and its platoon system. The injury occurred in practice on a breakaway layup with no contact, and the news rocked Big Blue Nation.

At the time of the injury, Poythress had started all eight games in the Cats’ first platoon. He was playing elite defense at the forward position, holding opposing players he guarded to an absurd 12.8% from the field. That is about as good as it gets.

Now, Poythress is back as this team’s lone senior and one of the most important pieces on the team.
