LEXINGTON – The COVID-19 restrictions on sporting attendance have been lifted, but, many Kentucky basketball fans still elected to stay home during the first seven games at Rupp Arena this season.
While UK announced average crowds of 18,615 for a homestand against exclusively low-major opponents, that figure is considered a measure of tickets distributed. Actual attendance was far lower.
The average number of tickets actually scanned at Rupp Arena during the homestand was 10,439, according to data obtained by the Courier Journal through an open records request. The Nov. 29 game against Central Michigan saw just 8,962 tickets scanned.
