The injury came during the McDonald’s All-American Game in March, with the 7-footer spending the next two months weighing his options regarding a natural recovery — a shorter timetable for return, but a greater chance of reinjury down the road — or going through with the procedure. He chose the latter to ensure his availability for the upcoming season.
