LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky and Texas A&M will meet on the football field for just the third time Saturday, but the two programs have long been linked by one of the most significant coaching changes in the sport’s history.
After turning down numerous job offers during his time at Kentucky, legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant announced on Feb. 4, 1954 he was leaving Kentucky for Texas A&M despite the $15,000-per-year salary in College Station being “a good bit” less than what he was paid at Kentucky.
