UK must rely on youth and varying degrees of experience for its exterior pass-rush and perimeter patrollers.
The outside linebackers did not play well last season. That's due only partly to the personnel. Outside linebacker is by nature a difficult position to master. They need to keep contain so running plays don't make it to the perimeter. They need to beat offensive tackles and running backs when pass-rushing. They also need to be adept at dropping into coverage.
The inherit challenges were compounded by the personnel. Jason Hatcher underachieved at UK, and he was the most experienced player.
