From Derrius Guice in the south to Benny Snell Jr. in the north, the SEC can expect a rushing stampede in 2017, and a national audience is taking notice.
Thirteen SEC running backs are on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, which annually goes to the nation’s top running back.
Guice, who rushed for 1,387 yards last season while splitting time with 2017 first-round pick Leonard Fournette, and Snell, coming off a Wildcats freshman record of 1,091 yards, are just two of the nominees.
Also on the list are Georgia’s Nick Chubb, who says he’s back to “100 percent” after the injuries that have hampered him in the past two years, and Vanderbilt senior Ralph Webb, who could move into the SEC’s all-time top five in yardage and already declared himself “the best running back in the nation” at SEC Media Days.
