The Kentucky Wildcats are one of the most storied college basketball programs in the country, and the 2015 team has a chance to be the first team in NCAA history to go 40-0. However, there are still wondering how good this team really is and how they stack up against past Kentucky teams. Where do they rank among the best Kentucky teams of the past 25 years?
5) 2002-2003
Kentucky went undefeated in the SEC, winning both the conference's regular season and tournament titles. Head coach Tubby Smith won National Coach of the Year with a roster containing several future NBA players (most notably Keith Bogans, Chuck Hayes, and Kelenna Azubuike), but they fell to Dwyane Wade's Marquette team in the Elite 8.
4) 1997-1998
Smith led the Wildcats to a national championship in his first year in Lexington, beating Duke and UCLA in the process. Nazr Muhammed and Jamaal Magloire headlined a team that went 35-4 and made the Final Four for the third year in a row.
3) 1995-1996
"The Untouchables" under Rick Pitino stormed through the rest of the country with their up-tempo pace and pressing defense. They went undefeated in the SEC regular season, but lost in the tournament title game to Mississippi State, only their second loss of the season. That loss seemed to refocus the Wildcats, who were led by three future NBA players (Muhammed, Antoine Walker, Ron Mercer), as they cruised to a national championship.
2) 2011-2012
John Calipari's first national championship team only lost twice and had a record six players drafted in the ensuing NBA Draft. They also went undefeated during the SEC regular season before losing the SEC Tournament championship game, but the immense amount of NBA talent this team had puts them ahead of "The Untouchables".
1) 2014-2015
It's hard to get much better than undefeated. Assuming the Wildcats finish the job and win the national title, they'll remain at the top of this list and cement themselves as one of the best teams in college basketball history. Not only would they be 40-0, but Kentucky has 10 guys on their roster that are projected to be NBA players, making them the most talented team of all-time.
