OXFORD, Ohio -- Eric Washington scored 16 points, Rod Mills tied his career high in scoring 14 with four 3-pointers and Miami (Ohio) built a 20-point lead early in the second half and defeated Kent State 74-65 on Saturday.
Mills connected on three consecutive 3-pointers and Washington scored five points in an 18-5 run that gave the RedHawks (11-18, 5-11 Mid-American) a 48-28 lead with 14 minutes left in the game.
The Golden Flashes (18-11, 9-7) were within six with 1:42 left but the RedHawks made 8 of 10 free throws in the final minute with Kent State going 1 of 6 from the floor and committing a technical foul.
