AKRON, Ohio – Kent State plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning, which is all of the run support starting pitcher Madi Huck needed in a 3-2 victory over Western Michigan to open the 2018 Mid-American Conference Softball Championship at Firestone Stadium on Wednesday.
The Golden Flashes (29-21) capitalized on wild pitching from Broncos starter Jordan Kurth to push three runs across the plate in their first trip to the plate. After Emily Dobbin was hit by a pitch and a work-around walk to MAC Player of the Year Holly Speers, Bailey Brownfield delivered the only hit of the frame with a single to left field that scored Dobbin.
