DOHA, Qatar — Former Kent State track and field standout Danniel Thomas-Dodd won the silver medal in the women's shot put in historic fashion at the 2019 IAAF World Championships, on Thursday evening. The Westmoreland, Jamaica native is the first Carribbean woman ever to medal in the shot at a World Championships competition with her throw of 19.47 meters (63'-10.5") on her final attempt.
China's Gong Lijiao took gold and her second straight shot put world title with a mark of 19.55m (64'-1.75").
The World Championships concluded an incredible season for Thomas-Dodd, who broke the Pan-Am Games shot put record with a mark of 19.
