EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Junior Tim Rooney's 133-pound title led a group of five Kent State wrestlers with top six finishes Sunday at the Cougar Clash inside Southern Illinois Edwardsville's Vadalabene Center. Rooney went 3-0 as the Golden Flashes finished sixth in the team standings.
Rooney has placed in the top three of all three tournaments he's competed in this season, but Sunday was his first career tournament championship. In his final bout, he topped Chattanooga's Jake Huffine 5-2. Rooney's closest bout came in the semifinals, a 7-6 decision over Arizona State's Josh Kramer.
