The University of Akron softball team split a Mid-American Conference doubleheader against Kent State on Senior Day.
The Zips (21-25, 9-9) jumped ahead early in the first game, winning 8-4 before falling by a run-rule 12-1.
With the series win, Kent State earned one point in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge between the two rivals. UA still leads 5.5 to 4.5.
Junior Jenna Jones and senior Alyssa Nicholas each smacked two-run doubles to left-center field in the second inning to give UA the early advantage in the first game.
Ronnie Ladines doubled twice and drove in three runs for Kent State and Maddy Grimm hit a solo homer for the final tally.
