The University of Akron track and field team participated in a pair of meets on Friday to open the 2016 spring season.
Junior Clayton Murphy, who won the NCAA title in the 800 meters on March 15 at the indoor championships, won the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:44.57 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
While Murphy continued his dominance in Raleigh, the Zips also competed in the Ricardo Romo Invitational in San Antonio.
Casey Slane placed third in the shot put with a toss of 16.85, and Zach Shull placed third and Robert Mitman finished fourth in the men’s hammer throw to lead the UA men.
