The University of Akron softball team closed out the 2017 season with a 7-5 loss to Western Michigan in the third round of the Mid-American Conference Championship on Friday at Firestone Stadium.
The Zips (27-30) trailed 2-0 after the second inning, but a four-run fourth inning gave the Zips a 4-2 lead. Laura Lankins had an RBI single, Savannah Fruin scored on a throwing error and Kelly Hysong hit a two-run home run to put the Zips ahead.
The Broncos scored five runs in the fifth inning to regain the lead for good.
