University of Akron freshman Jonathan Lewis was drafted No. 3 overall by New York City FC at the MLS SuperDraft on Friday in Los Angeles.
New York City FC traded up in the draft to acquire Lewis, who will now team with international superstar David Villa and Jack Harrison, the 2016 MLS SuperDraft No. 1 overall pick.
Lewis, the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year, scored two goals and led the Zips in assists (12), scoring (16) and shots on goal (21) in 2016. Lewis is a member of the US under-20 national team and will participate in the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
