Ball State utilized a dominant second quarter to defeat visiting Akron 80-70 in Mid-American Conference women’s basketball Saturday.
After the Zips (7-9, 0-5) took a 20-17 lead heading into the second quarter, the Cardinals (11-6, 4-1) outscored Akron 31-13 before the half to carry momentum and a 48-33 lead into the break.
The backcourt of Megan Sefcik and Alex Ricketts scored 13 points apiece to lead the Zips. Freshman Haliegh Reinoehl returned to her home state of Indiana to record nine points and a career-high nine rebounds.
