The Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament will begin Wednesday at Firestone Stadium with the championship decided on Saturday.
Kent State (27-25, 15-9) is seeded fourth and will play No. 5 Ball State (30-26, 14-10) at 10:30 a.m.
The University of Akron (26-28, 12-12) is seeded seventh and will play No. 2 Ohio University (36-14, 17-7) at 3:30 p.m.
Central Michigan (36-13, 18-5) is the top seed.
• University of Akron pitcher Lexie Handley (St. Vincent-St. Mary) was named Mid-American Conference freshman of the year on Tuesday. Handley won MAC pitcher of the week three times and won 19 games, including a no-hitter.
