The Kent State softball team secured the regular season Mid-American Conference title Saturday with a 6-3 win over rival Akron.
The Golden Flashes (35-20, 16-7 MAC) broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth when senior Michele Duffy lined a two-run single to right field.
The Zips (29-23-1, 11-10-1 MAC) were unable to muster any offense after Duffy’s hit, and KSU sophomore Emily Dobbin tacked on another run in the sixth inning with her first career home run.
Earlier in the game, junior Maddy Grimm belted her 17th home run, scoring her school-record 48th run of the season in the process.
