The Kent State softball team opened the 2016 season with two wins on Friday at the FGCU Kickoff Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Golden Flashes (2-0) defeated Illinois-Chicago 10-0 in five innings in the first game and beat Memphis 4-3 with a seventh inning comeback in the second game.
Maddy Grimm hit a solo home run and scored two runs and Arika Roush had an RBI single and scored a run to lead the offense in the Game One win over the Flames. Ronnie Ladines struck out eight and allowed one hit through five innings for her first win of the season.
