Kent State opened the Mid-American Conference part of its baseball schedule by sweeping three games at Ball State (11-13, 0-3), including 9-4 on Sunday behind 20 hits.
Kent State (15-6, 3-0) scored five runs in the first two innings. Leadoff batter Luke Burch opened the game with the first of his four singles. Mason Mamarella went 3-for-6 with three RBI, and Pete Schuler and Sam Hurt each hit his first home run of the season.
Starting pitcher Joel Murray earned the win to improve to 3-0. He tied a career high with 11 strikeouts in 5u2153 innings.
