MAC softball tournament / Ohio 2, Kent State 1: Bobcats eliminate top-seeded Golden Flashes

The Kent State softball team basically beat itself in Friday night’s Mid-American Conference Tournament elimination game against Ohio University at Firestone Stadium.

The Golden Flashes managed eight hits and only gave up two runs, but a few bad breaks, costly mistakes and missed opportunities ultimately led to Ohio’s 2-1 victory and the end of their season.

Earlier Friday, Kent State advanced with a 13-6 win over Akron.

“We obviously played pretty well, but we just didn’t get the key hits when we needed them,” Kent State interim coach Eric Oakley said. “We had a couple of base-running mistakes that were pretty costly in a one-run game, and it’s disappointing.
