A problem scoring runs? Not Kent State. Certainly not on Friday against its archrival.
The Golden Flashes equalled their highest single-game offensive output of the season, beating Akron 13-6 in an elimination game of the Mid-American Conference softball tournament at Firestone Stadium.
That propelled top-seeded Kent State (37-21) to another win-or-else game against Ohio Friday night. And it ended the season for the sixth-seeded Zips (30-25-1).
The Flashes scored just one run in their first two games of the tourney, a 1-0 victory over Western Michigan and 2-0 loss to Northern Illinois, after which interim coach Eric Oakley lamented the lack of runs.
