MAC baseball championship game/ Western Michigan 12, Kent State 7: Broncos hammer Flashes to win conference title, automatic NCAA berth

AVON: The end of Saturday’s Mid-American Conference Championship game between Kent State and Western Michigan couldn’t have come any sooner than it did for the Flashes.

The seventh-seeded Broncos shelled the top-seeded Golden Flashes 12-7 at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon to clinch the MAC title and earn an NCAA berth.

Western Michigan (22-32) dominated from the beginning and led 12-0 until the eighth inning, when Kent State (44-14) exploded for seven runs but got no closer.

“This team doesn’t quit,” Flashes coach Jeff Duncan said. “It’s unfortunate that it ended like this. In these types of situations, it’s how good you’re playing at that time, and we just couldn’t get the mojo going quite as much as we’d liked to.
