Lawson Named Great Lakes Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – Kent State redshirt junior TJ Lawson collected another award on Wednesday, as he was named Great Lakes Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday.

Lawson broke Kent State's 21-year-old decathlon record at the Tennessee Relays in April, and his scored of 7,876 is the second-highest all-time by a mid-American Conference athlete. He ranks fifth in the nation heading into his third straight NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships competition this coming weekend.

After winning his third consecutive decathlon title at the MAC Outdoor Championships while also scoring points in the long jump, high jump and 4x400 meter relay, Lawson was selected as the meet's Most Outstanding Field Performer.
