Lawson Holds Lead in Decathlon Following Day 1 at Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Kent State's TJ Lawson scored 4,280 points through the first five events of the decathlon Thursday at the Tennessee Relays and holds a 116-point lead after the opening day of the meet.

Lawson clocked a personal-best time of 10.78 in the 100-meter dash to open the competition. He followed with an outdoor personal-best in the long jump, soaring 24'-4.25" to finish third and earn 915 points, his highest-scoring event of the day. The redshirt junior then added a victory in the shot put with a top throw of 48'-7.25", which was nearly five feet further than any other competitor.
