KENT: Three years ago, Kent State coach Rob Senderoff announced the Golden Flashes would sign Deon Edwin, a transfer student from a small community college in Wyoming.
Senderoff credited Jason Ficca, Edwin’s former coach at Laramie County Community College, for developing the player who’s started all but four games for the Flashes (9-9, 1-4 Mid-American Conference) this season. Edwin is the team’s third-leading scorer with 12.3 points per game, and he’s averaged 4.9 rebounds a night for the MAC’s best rebounding team.
“Develop” is still Senderoff’s word of choice to describe Edwin. He likens his senior guard to graduates Khaliq Spicer and Randal Holt, who took a few seasons to blossom into the integral players they were by their senior seasons.
