Former Kent State University softball player sues KSU, former coach claiming she was asked to cover up a rape

A former Kent State University softball player has sued the university and the former softball coach, claiming the coach asked her to cover up a rape.

The plaintiff, who is no longer playing softball but is still a student at Kent State, filed the civil lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Cleveland against the university and former softball coach Karen Linder.

The plaintiff is not being identified by the Beacon Journal because of the rape accusation. It was not immediately clear whether any criminal charges have been filed against the alleged assailant.

She is claiming a violation of equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment by the university and Linder, and the infliction of intentional emotional distress by Linder.
