KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University field hockey team closed out its weekend homestand with a 1-0 loss to Michigan State on Sunday afternoon.
The Flashes (1-1) played a strong defensive game, holding Michigan State (2-0) to a single goal in six shots and four corners. Junior goalkeeper Azure Fernsler tallied five saves in the net for Kent State.
Despite, Kent State's productive first half firing 11 shots and eight corner attempts, the Flashes were unable to capitalize. Freshman Maria Cambra Soler led the charge with her five shot attempts.
Following a defensive first half that held the Spartans shot less, Michigan State broke the scoreless game with a goal on the deflection after Fernsler made the initial save from a shot attempt in the 33rd minute.
