KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In its first Mid-American Conference match of the year, Kent State (2-4-2, 0-0-1 MAC) earned a point with a double overtime, 3-3, tie against Western Michigan (2-5-1, 0-0-1 MAC) at the WMU Soccer Complex Saturday morning. The Golden Flashes showed resiliency and overcame a three-goal deficit and scored all of their goals in just 21 minutes.
Redshirt sophomore Karly Hellstrom sparked the Kent State offense in the 58th minute and scored her third goal of the year on a penalty kick. It electrified the offensive attack as the Flashes came right back to score in the 65th minute.
